Step-by-step instructions

  1. Stand tall in Mountain Pose with your feet planted firmly and your weight balanced evenly across both feet.

  2. On an inhale, open your arms out to the sides and bend the elbows to ninety degrees so the palms face forward in a cactus or goal-post shape.

  3. Draw your shoulder blades gently together and down your back, opening across the chest without forcing the shoulders past a comfortable range.

  4. Keep your lower ribs drawing in and your tailbone lengthening down so you open the chest without arching the lower back.

  5. Lift the crown of your head and breathe wide into the front of the chest, keeping the neck long and relaxed.

  6. Hold for 5 breaths, then release the arms back down alongside the body on an exhale.
