Step-by-step instructions

  1. Lie on your back on the mat with your legs extended and your arms resting by your sides.

  2. On an exhale, bend one knee and draw it in toward your chest, clasping your hands around your shin just below the knee rather than over the kneecap to keep the knee joint comfortable.

  3. Gently hug the thigh toward your belly while keeping the back of your head, shoulders, and the opposite leg relaxed and grounded so your lower back stays long and supported.

  4. Keep your shoulders soft away from your ears and breathe slowly into your belly, feeling a light massage in your lower back and hip with each exhale.

  5. Hold for five to eight breaths, then release the leg back down and repeat on the other side, or draw both knees in together for a fuller version.

  6. To finish, slowly lower both feet to the floor and rest with your legs extended before moving on.
