Step-by-step instructions

  1. Lie on your back with both legs extended along the floor and your spine long and relaxed.

  2. Bend your right knee and draw it in toward your chest, clasping your hands around the shin just below the knee.

  3. Keep the left leg active and gently grounded, and softly press your lower back toward the floor as you breathe slowly.

  4. On each exhale, hug the right knee a little closer while keeping your shoulders, neck, and jaw relaxed.

  5. If the knee feels tender, hold behind the back of the thigh instead of over the kneecap.

  6. Hold for 5 to 8 breaths, then release the right leg back to the floor and repeat on the left side.
