Step-by-step instructions
Begin standing, then shift your weight onto one slightly bent standing leg to keep that knee soft and protected.
Hinge forward from your hips as you lift the other leg straight back, reaching it behind you toward the wall.
Bring your torso and lifted leg toward parallel with the floor so your body forms one long line from head to heel.
Keep your hips level and squared down toward the mat, and lengthen your tailbone to keep your lower back from sinking.
Engage your core and reach your arms forward, back, or alongside your body, fixing your gaze on a steady point and breathing calmly.
Hold for 3 to 5 breaths, then bend the standing knee and lower your lifted foot down with control before switching sides.
