Step-by-step instructions

  1. From standing, step one foot back about a leg's length and angle that back foot to roughly 45 degrees, keeping both heels grounded.

  2. Bend your front knee toward 90 degrees, stacking it directly over your ankle so the knee never pushes past your toes.

  3. Square your hips and chest toward the front of your mat, drawing your tailbone down to keep your lower back from over-arching.

  4. On an inhale, sweep your arms overhead and reach up, keeping your shoulders relaxed down away from your ears.

  5. Press firmly through the outer edge of your back foot and lift through your chest as you breathe steadily.

  6. Hold for 3 to 5 breaths, then straighten the front leg and step forward, repeating on the other side.
