Step-by-step instructions

  1. Come into Warrior I with one foot stepped back at about 45 degrees and your front knee bent and stacked over its ankle.

  2. Square your hips and chest to the front of the mat and lengthen your tailbone down so the lower back stays supported.

  3. Interlace your fingers behind your back and gently straighten your arms to draw the hands away from your hips.

  4. Roll your shoulders back and down and lift through your chest into a gentle opening, never forcing the shoulders past a comfortable range.

  5. Keep your gaze forward or slightly up and breathe smoothly as you hold the lunge steady.

  6. Stay for 3 to 5 breaths, then release your hands, straighten the front leg, and switch sides.
