Step-by-step instructions
Stand tall and shift your weight onto your left foot, grounding evenly through all four corners of that sole and finding a steady gaze point ahead of you.
Bend your right knee and place the sole of your right foot onto your inner left calf or inner thigh, avoiding pressing directly on the side of the knee joint.
Open your right knee out to the side to externally rotate the hip, but only as far as feels easy so you don't strain the hip, and press foot and standing leg into each other for stability.
Lengthen up through your spine, draw your low belly in, and bring your palms together at your heart or reach your arms up overhead like branches.
Breathe slowly and steadily for five to eight breaths, keeping a soft micro-bend in the standing knee and resting a hand on a wall if you need extra balance.
To exit, lower the right foot back to the floor with control and repeat on the second side.
