Step-by-step instructions

  1. From Warrior I with your right foot forward, interlace your hands behind your back (or hold a strap between them if the shoulders are tight).

  2. Inhale to lift your chest and draw your clasped hands away from your back, opening across the front of the shoulders without straining them.

  3. Exhale and hinge forward from the hips, bowing your torso to the inside of your front thigh while keeping the front knee tracking over the ankle, not collapsing inward, to protect the knee.

  4. Keep your back leg strong and straight and let your hands float overhead only as far as the shoulders comfortably allow.

  5. Lengthen the lower back and keep your core gently engaged so the spine stays long rather than crunching as you fold.

  6. Hold for 4 to 6 breaths, then press into your feet to rise back up to Warrior I and repeat on the other side.
