Step-by-step instructions

  1. Sit tall with both legs extended, then bend your right knee and place the sole of your right foot against your inner left thigh, letting the right knee fall open toward the floor.

  2. Square your chest toward the straight left leg and inhale to lengthen your spine upward, sitting on a folded blanket if your lower back rounds.

  3. Exhale and hinge forward from your hips, reaching toward your left foot and keeping the lower back long rather than collapsing the spine to protect it.

  4. Keep a micro-bend in the extended left knee and flex that foot, easing back slightly if you feel any strain in the knee or hip.

  5. Loop a strap around the left foot or rest your hands on a block if you can't reach, and breathe steadily into the back of the body.

  6. Hold for 5 to 8 breaths, then inhale to rise up with a long spine and switch sides.
