Step-by-step instructions
Sit tall and open one leg out wide to the side, keeping the other knee bent with that foot drawn in toward your inner thigh.
Flex the toes of the extended leg up and keep a soft micro-bend in that knee so the stretch stays in the muscle, not the joint.
Anchor the sitting bone of your extended-leg side down and reach the same-side arm up overhead on an inhale to create length.
Exhale and side-bend over the straight leg, reaching your top arm toward the foot while keeping both sitting bones grounded.
Keep your chest rotating slightly upward instead of collapsing forward, and lengthen your lower back rather than crunching into the side waist.
Hold for 5 to 6 breaths, inhale to come back up to center, then repeat on the second side.
