Step-by-step instructions
Sit tall on the front edge of a folded blanket with your legs crossed in front of you.
Stack your right shin directly on top of your left, lining your right ankle over your left knee and your right knee over your left ankle so the legs form a neat rectangle.
Keep both feet firmly flexed throughout to shield your knees and ankles, and only stack the shins as fully as your hips allow without any knee pinching.
Sit up through a long spine and, if the hips feel intense, stay upright or slide a block under the top knee for support rather than forcing it down.
On an exhale, hinge forward from the hips with a flat back to deepen the stretch, breathing slowly into the outer hips.
Hold for five to eight breaths, rise back up, then unstack and switch the cross of the legs.
