Step-by-step instructions

  1. From a standing forward fold, place your fingertips on the floor or on a block beside your feet and step the feet hip-width apart.

  2. Inhale and lift your chest halfway up so your spine extends forward and becomes long and flat, like a tabletop, with the crown of the head reaching forward.

  3. Draw your shoulders down away from your ears and lightly engage your core and front thighs while keeping a small bend in the knees.

  4. Lengthen the lower back and gaze just past your fingertips, breathing steadily as you create one straight line from the tailbone to the crown.

  5. Hold for 3 to 5 breaths, then either fold all the way down on an exhale or bend the knees and rise to stand.
