Step-by-step instructions

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and place your hands on your hips.

  2. Soften your knees and hinge forward from your hip creases, leading with your chest rather than rounding from your waist to protect your lower back.

  3. Let your torso drape over your thighs and bring your hands to the floor, your shins, or a block placed in front of you.

  4. Keep a gentle bend in your knees and let your head and neck hang heavy, breathing into the back of your legs as you lengthen on each inhale.

  5. Stay for several breaths, then bend your knees more and roll up slowly, stacking your spine one vertebra at a time.
