Step-by-step instructions

  1. Lie on your belly with your legs extended back and the tops of your feet resting on the mat.

  2. Place your forearms on the floor with elbows directly under your shoulders and your forearms parallel.

  3. Press your forearms down and lift your chest, gently drawing your shoulders away from your ears as you breathe into the front of your body.

  4. Lengthen your tailbone toward your heels and keep your lower belly lightly engaged so the gentle backbend spreads evenly and protects your lower back.

  5. Hold for five to ten slow breaths, then release your chest down and turn one cheek to the mat to rest.
