Step-by-step instructions
From a standing forward fold, step your left foot back into a long stance and bend your right knee to come into a low lunge with your hands framing the front foot.
Stack the front knee directly over the ankle so the knee never pushes past the toes, and press back through the straight left leg toward the heel.
Ground down through the front foot and lift the front kneecap slightly so the joint stays supported and the ankle feels stable.
Draw the lower belly in and lengthen the tailbone down to keep the lower back long, while reaching the crown of the head forward.
Breathe steadily and sink the hips a little lower with each exhale to open the front of the back hip.
Hold for 5 breaths, then step the back foot forward to meet the front and switch sides.
