Step-by-step instructions

  1. Begin seated in a comfortable cross-legged position, sitting up on a folded blanket if your hips are tight so your spine can stay long.

  2. Root down through your sit bones and lengthen upward, keeping your lower back gently lifted and your core lightly engaged.

  3. On an inhale, sweep both arms out to the sides and up overhead, reaching your fingertips toward the ceiling.

  4. Keep your shoulders relaxed and sliding away from your ears, with the arms framing your head rather than crowding it, to protect the shoulder joints.

  5. Hold for 4 to 6 breaths, growing a little taller with each inhale.

  6. On an exhale, float your arms back down, then switch the cross of your legs before repeating.
