Yoga for total beginners: how live alignment feedback lets you start safely without a studio

Yogin3 min read

If you are starting yoga from zero, Yogin turns your phone camera into a coach so you do not need a studio: while it watches, it tracks your body joints live and turns how well you hold a pose into an alignment score. That means you can begin safely, with real-time feedback, even with no one in the room to correct you.

Knowing where the score comes from builds trust. The app tracks points across your body — shoulders, hips, knees, wrists, ankles and feet — and the geometry of those points relative to one another tells it both which pose you are in and how well you are holding it. As the score rises, your alignment is settling in — the screen shows the small corrections in real time.

For a beginner, one of the biggest worries is privacy, especially with a camera on at home. In Yogin the answer is clear: everything happens on the device. The camera feed never leaves your phone and is never uploaded to any server; what gets analysed is the skeleton geometry, not the image. Privacy here is not a setting — it is the architecture.

So you never feel alone, spoken coaching steps in. Every pose has authored lines for entry, alignment, deepening and exit, played not as robotic text-to-speech but as pre-rendered natural-voice clips. A scheduler decides which line is spoken when, based on how long you hold: a roughly 30-second hold hears a short narration, while a longer 60-to-90-second hold earns more guidance. As you move into a pose, you just follow the voice.

You do not have to guess where to begin either. The Learn path lays out the whole pose library from easy to hard; it starts with the simplest poses and works up to the harder ones. You move through each step at your own pace, with no rush.

Consistency comes before flexibility — and Yogin makes it visible. Streaks and the badges you earn track your regular practice, so each session gives the next a small nudge. The goal is not a perfect pose; it is coming back to your mat tomorrow.

Yogin’s platform clients are being rolled out gradually. The homepage links to a live store listing when one is configured; otherwise, it offers platform-specific early access. If something is on your mind, take a look at our FAQ. All you really need is a little space, your phone, and the willingness to begin.
